Professional Contemporary Artist
Ricardo Maya is a Cuban Painter, Sculptor, Illustrator and Designer; currently domiciled in Granada, Nicaragua. He was engaged as a Professor of Arts and a Gallery Director before changing his career and adopting arts and creativity as his preferred field of work where he currently follows his passion in creating masterful creations.
When facing his artwork, as an artist Ricardo tries to make it upright, no matter what the elements are. The style or the speech of the semiotic symbols which most of the time is his personal codes. Most of his admirers value his work according to the influence he has from surrealism or magic realism. On the other hand, that contradicts his attitude of "not being an artist of a single painting".
Ricardo is greatly influenced by Dalí, Magritte, Dechirico and other master creators without any affiliation to surrealism, such as Picasso, Frida or Tomas Sanches; just to name a few. His artwork is his wish to experience with the visual as much it is possible, which is the reason why he portrays different facets in his paintings and sculpture which are moving in cycles creating hope.
To be an artist is a privilege, although drama is mixed with frustrations, restrictions and limitations. There is no price that can buy the emotions of the creative process of any finished artwork. Ricardo says, "When the images torment me, I start doing abstracts exercises to get close to the images in a subtle way and start over again."
